I really love peridot but would it hold up well in an engagement ring?
Peridot is my birthstone, and so happens to be my favorite color! GREEN! I am not sure how durable it is as far as using as an engagement ring I really really love the idea though to make it more personal…My fiance’s birthstone is Sapphire which is my second favorite color BLUE! I would love to incorporate both of them into a ring but I like the sparkle that diamonds bring as an accent so I might just stick to peridot with diamond accents… What do you think?
This is an example that I like… arrange the gems as Sapphire, Peridot, Sapphire

Larisa You bring up a good point, I always thought that Diamonds were the only way to go, but then I realized, a ring is for representing the love it symbolizes so why not make it personal, why can’t it mean something more than just being an engagement ring?

Peridot would hold up very well in an engagement ring. It is my birthstone as well and I have a ring that I wear everyday and have for almost 10 years now. The stone itself is still beautiful
My ring has diamonds against diamonds and it looks brilliant so I would recommend that as well. Maybe one sapphire stone at the top or bottom would work well and be a great conversation piece if people get curious as to why your ring is set up the way that it is
it would be nice to put your two favorite gemstones as and accent in your engagement ring, but come on! Get with it, and engagement ring is a diamond! Just imagine how those April babies feel
I love the colour of peridot. It comes up a 6.5-7 on the Mohs hardness scale, so not incredibly hard, but hard enough I think you could put it in an engagement ring as long as you understand it could break or get scratched and would then need to be replaced. It’s cheap enough you could easily do this. You can get great deals on loose peridot here: http://www.gemselect.com/group/gemselect.php?x_ByType=on
However, if you’re sentimental about the stone and would like to see it last your lifetime or be passed down, I don’t think peridot is a good choice. Of course even diamonds, the hardest gemstone, don’t come with a guarantee they won’t break. The diamond propagandists always forget to mention that while diamonds are difficult to scratch, they have fracture lines that can lead to chips and breaks.
Sapphire is a very hard 9 on the Mohs scale and would be very suitable for an engagement ring.
I like the ring in the third link, the peridot with side diamonds.
Good luck!
This is my aquamarine engagement ring with some diamonds on the sides (Hubby felt it *had* to have diamonds on there somewhere – which was fine).

I think Peridot & Sapphire would be beautiful and both stones are sturdy enough for everyday wear. Most gemstones are. The ones to avoid would be pearl and turquoise.
